LEGENDARY FANS OF C-TOWN SPORTS,

THE CAVS ARE COMING TOGETHER, AND GELLING WITH SOME SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS FORM. THEY BLEW OUT DETROIT LAST NIGHT [3/19/08]. CHECK OUT THIS WEB SITE: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-080320

FINALLY, SOME NATION-WIDE RESPECT FOR THE CAVS. IF THE CAVS PLAY DEFENSE LIKE THEY DID LAST NIGHT, WE WILL ROLL THE BULLS, DETROIT, AND BOSTON, IF WE HAVE TO. THANK GOD WE HAVE BEN WALLACE FOR DEFENSE. JOE SMITH IS GUARANTEED FROM 12-17 FEET.

After handling the Pistons, it's clear the Cavaliers are an increasingly dangerous threat to repeat as East champs.

ONE STAT I LOVE THAT I HEARD LAST NIGHT IS Wally Szczerbiak IS 24/26 FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE SINCE JOING THE CAVS. ALONG WITH Zydrunas Ilgauskas, THAT PUTS 2 THREATS AT THE LINE.

I HOPE THAT Y'ALL HAVE AN EXCELLENT EASTER, AND I HOPE THAT THE ROCK CAN GET THAT AUDIO BACK IN SHAPE.

PEACE AND LOVE,

Efficiency is by no means a "perfect" stat, as there is not a perfect stat out there. It is a pretty good general number that reflects a players value on the court. Almost all of the time, the teams with the highest efficiency rating of all their players combined also have the best records. I've been saying this for a while, but anyone who doesn't know about OPS and other Sabermetric baseball stats needs to read Bill James' Abstract or the book "Moneyball", which is a little easier to digest. You may never look at another batting average again.

Aaron: I was not aware of basketball efficiency ratings until you mentioned them in this week's podcast. It's an interesting and complicated statistic, especially the version designed by ESPN's John Hollinger, which even takes into account a team's pace of play (fast-break, etc). Critics say good as his system is, it still doesn't include such intangibles as leadership, durability, etc. And it doesn't reflect defense beyond blocks, steals and fouls. So defenders who simply shut down their assigned man and either hold them to a low field goal percentage or prevent them from getting off shots at all aren't fairly rated.
Maybe in your baseball coverage you could take a look at Bill James and Sabermetrics, which questions some of baseball's accepted measures of skill (batting average, etc.) According to Terry Pluto, the Indians put a lot of emphasis on OPS (on-base plus slugging), which is one Sabermetrics number. I wonder what stats teams like the Tigers look at.

I just listened to that third baseman get an RBI hit on the Tribe website, and the radio guy pronounced his name Martay, with stress on the last syllable (marTAY). I've also heard it pronouned MARtay. How about those Cavs winning with 8 last night!

ROCK DAWG,
ALWAYS BEEN AN INSPIRATION TO ME; THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM MEANS [a name acquired in my days as an OHIO UNIVERSITY student along with the rock, bkav etc.
Hands down, Pavlik devastated Taylor, winning the world middle-weight championship.
This message is following ALL-STAR weekend held by the NBA in New Orleans, LA. King James almost reeled in a triple double in the ALL STAR GAME. That is pretty impressive to me. And some of the assists were simply alley-oops to Dwight Howard or other high fliers on the EAST SIDE [Rudy Gay.]

In any event, this message is intended to heard by favorite Clevelanders and is will accept any response.

Your main man, and the "toughest man alive"--MR. MEANS

Peace and love,
